This was when 1C Company announced that King's Bounty 2 was in development and would come to the Playstation 4. The day is August 15, 2019: exactly five years and one day since Dark Side was released. It's hours upon hours' worth of entertainment and almost limitless replay value. Well, four plus an expansion (Crossworlds). All in all, this is four completely new King's Bounty games. There's also 2012's King's Bounty: Warriors of the North and the latest entry in the franchise, 2014's King's Bounty: Dark Side. No-they released King's Bounty: Armored Princess in 2009, and its expansion, King's Bounty: Crosworlds in 2010. In addition to this, Katauri and 1C Company did not stop there. Combine its refinement of the classic formula with many new features and breathtaking music like this track and you get a bona fide formula for success. You had the return of so many classic mechanics: the ability to choose your starting class, the troop mechanic, the exploration, the leadership stat, and so much more! In addition, King's Bounty: The Legend featured dozens of hours of replay, compared to the original (which can easily be completed within several hours). To any old fan of the original King's Bounty, it was simply unbelievable how faithful this release was to the original. Somewhere along the way, in the mid-2000s, these guys acquired the rights to the King's Bounty name-and what a great thing this turned out to be, because throughout the late 2000s to early 2010s, they spearheaded the revival of King's Bounty! This revival started with 2008's King's Bounty: The Legend. Specifically, publishers 1C Company (they also developed Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark which is another SRPG game that you may enjoy) and developers Katauri Interactive, headed by Dmitry Gusarov. Surely, it'd merely be a one-off, especially now that New World Computing was no more. After all, there was only one King's Bounty game, and it was released back in 1990. With the dissolution of New World Computing, it would at first appear that there would be no new King's Bounty games. The unfortunate bankruptcy of New World Computing also poignantly helps explain the history behind the next section of King's Bounty's history. I don't want to focus too much on HoMM here since it has its entire own subreddit ( r/homm), but I needed to mention it here because its history is very much intertwined with that of King's Bounty. As a result, a different company's been developing the newer HoMM games. Unfortunately, the company had to file for chapter 11 bankruptcy. However, the final one to be developed by New World Computing was Heroes of Might and Magic 4 back in 2003. In total, there are seven Heroes of Might and Magic games. Any fan of the King's Bounty games will probably enjoy HoMM, and vice versa. Aside from this, though, these games are worthy sequels to the original: the combat is virtually identical, the graphics are improved, there's the similar troop mechanic to the original King's Bounty, and so much more. The main way in which these games differed from KB was that there was an emphasis on city-building, which outright didn't exist in the original King's Bounty. In many ways, this series could be accurately described as the spiritual successor to King's Bounty. Speaking of which.Įventually, New World Computing began developing the Heroes of Might and Magic games, beginning with 1995's Heroes of Might and Magic: A Strategic Quest. This game played nothing at all like King's Bounty: The Conqueror's Quest, but elements from it, most notably its name, helped influence eventual later efforts by van Caneghem and his company, New World Computing. One of these games was the original Might and Magic, released back in 1986. Jon van Caneghem, the mastermind and programmer behind it all, had actually released three games prior to King's Bounty. Importantly, it was arguably one of the first ever SRPGs, even if it was quite different from its Japanese contemporaries such as Fire Emblem 1 and Langrisser 1.Īlthough somewhat obscure in this day and age-after all, it IS a 30-year old game at this point-it nonetheless has a small cult following who absolutely adore the game. Although primitive by today's standards, the original King's Bounty was a notable blend between adventuring in a high-fantasy setting with turn-based tactical gameplay. The very first release of this game was for the MS-DOS, but it was remade for the Sega Genesis in 1991 ( I did a review of this one) and the PC-98 in 1994. In 1990, King's Bounty: The Conqueror's Quest was the first entry in the series. and what better time to do so, than when King's Bounty 2 is fresh on the horizon? Anyway, let's get to it! My aim here is to outline the entire history of the franchise. Because it's possible that not everyone finding out about this subreddit has played EVERY King's Bounty game, I wanted to make this post. People are extremely well hidden and even on low graphics there is a ton of foliage visible which hides players. The maps are so clustered with stuff (trees, walls, debris, holes, leaves. Too much randomness for an arcade shooter. The locational damage model is something to get used to but super inconsistent and weird to use (for example destroying the tracks of a tank) or shells that ricochet of a tank. It's not uncommon to shoot multiple rounds (4-6) into another tank (Tiger especially) without doing much damage. Some are super weak due to the turret rotation speed or damage output (turret rotation speed is super wobbly and “drunken” in first person). Tanks are super inconsistent in strength. Very often it's an 8v4 game - which is not fun. There is no auto team balance what so ever so it's not unusual that one team is 2-5 people short. I cant recommend this game because imo the problems outweighs the good by a lot. If you are unsure you can get Origin pass and play both BF4, BF1 and BF5, cancel if need be, personally this is how i play BF games as its like 240$ to all the content of BF4, BF1, and access to BF5 otherwise Id personally say its the worst optimized BF in regards to consistent frame-rates if you strictly run at DX12, DX11 is similar to BF1, but DX12 also looks rather nice, so its a trade-off.įinally if i was going to say one universally good thing about the game, even something people who may dislike it vs earlier BFs, they got rid of DLC with the game and they aren't launching another BF for atleast a year, so that just means more free content, no needed micro transactions to play all the maps or all the weapons, if you get bored of the content in the game you can pick it back up in 6 months or a year and still find new content, for free, like it should be. DX12 can often push higher frames but can also stutter more (even a issue on brand new CPUs), however if you can run it then the way it renders outlines of soldiers makes spotting easier. You may need to take some time to set graphics config as DX12 vs DX11 performance varies wildly between systems. Not important really but i'd add i like the feel of speedy transport (whether horse or halftrack) better in BF1 and previous BFs, jeeps and half tracks feel bouncier in BF5, but tanks and planes are still what ive come to expect. Likewise the guns are cool, the gunplays fun and a step up from BF1 imo (also i prefer having more wwii stuff), but if you are a huge vehicle fan you may find slightly less of them on the field then some previous battlefield games on certain maps, on average, depends on map ofc as obvious "Panzerstorm" has quiet a few. I'd say gameplay wise important thing is just getting used to changes in a lot of the maps designs, they are less strictly funneled then some previous battlefields, atleast some of the maps, so you have to kind of figure out routes a bit more like Rising Storm sort of games, rather then having obvious ABC routes on all maps between objectives, you still have cover but its less conveniently arranged more like a actual field less like a field designed to be in arcade/competitive shooter. If you only want to play Grand Operations stick with BF1. I'd say yes, so long as you like breakthrough (rush basically) and conquest which are still populated. OR watch this video for a shorter version. Its community manager having full on Mexican standoff against an entire BF community. This proposed change has created a serious crapstorm in the community. This change is pushed to make game more accessible for "low-skill" players that they want to lure in ducing Christmas sales. I'm talking every primary weapon in the game except for bolt action rifles. To counter this change, they're reducing damage of most weapons. Basically they will make all weapons easier to use by reducing their recoil and increasing rate of fire. This patch will completely re-work most of the infantry weapons in the game. There is 5.2 patch that is scheduled for early December. Plenty of maps too - 15 so far with a couple more on the way in the next couple of months. Weapon unlocks, vehicle unlock, weekly challenges, Tide of War grind, Mastery assignments etc. There is a good amount of content for a new player to explore. Wake Island is set for December and another Pacific map is rumoured for January. It includes 2 maps (Iwo Jima and Pacific Storm). Pacific content has just been released a few weeks ago. But from what I've read on forums, East coast seems to be populated while West cost isn't.Īs for the game itself, it is worth getting. I'm playing in the EU, so I can't speak for US popularity. How to Play SolitaireĬlassic Solitaire, also known as klondike solitaire, is arguably the most popular form of solitaire today. Queen Victoria's German husband, Prince Albert, was notably fond of patience games. Some game variations have also been called patience, especially in England, Germany, and Portugal. This is also supported by the use of the alternative term "cabale", which originated from the Medieval Latin "caballa", meaning secret knowledge. The card game Solitaire likely originated from cartomancy or tarot as an early form of fortune telling due to how cards are laid out in both practices. However, this was a different game as it used pegs instead of cards. One of the first documented references to the word "solitaire" was in a 17th-century engraving featuring Anne-Joulie de Rohan-Chabot, Princess Soubise, playing solitaire. The origins of the game are a little hazy. The game involves arranging a shuffled deck of cards into a specified order or tableau, no matter the variation. Solitaire is the collective term for hundreds of card games and activities requiring only one person. And the gentlemen will find the wine just as pleasing as the ladies.
